We just released the very best version of WP Recipe Maker up until today: version 7.4.0. Read on for the highlights and a full changelog or update right away!

Associating ingredients with instructions

Do you find yourself referring back to the ingredient list while reading recipe instructions? With our new feature that’s a thing of the past as you can put the ingredient amounts right where you need them: next to the instructions.

Even better: if your visitors change the serving size or unit system, those ingredients will change right with them, as you can see in action in the video below.

To actually associate your ingredients with different instruction steps we’ve added some tabs in the “Instructions” section of the recipe edit modal.

Go to the “Associated Ingredients” tab to select ingredients for every instruction step. In the bottom right you can see which ingredients haven’t been used yet as an easy reference.

Whenever you update an ingredient, it will automatically get updated next to the instruction as well, so no need to worry about that.

Unfortunately you will have to go through any existing recipes if you want to add this feature, but we really believe your visitors will love it!

Pick a collection to add a recipe to

The existing Add to Recipe Collection Button was very easy to use: just a single click and the recipe is stored in your recipe collections inbox. Another click to go to those collections.

Unfortunately, this could make things a bit annoying to manage afterwards, especially after saving lots of recipes in the inbox.

As of version 7.4.0 we now give you the option to have the add to collection button show up as a tooltip instead, where visitors can immediately pick where they want to add that recipe to:

If your visitors are used to the recipe collections feature, this will definitely speed up their workflow!

To enable, check out the new settings on the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Recipe Collections page. We’ve also added a few new options there, like the ability to have a recipe show up at the top of a collection, instead of the bottom.

There’s also automatic scrolling to top now while navigating collections, which should also be a big improvement for the user experience. You can fine-tune or disable this through the settings page as well.

A new dashboard page with latest news

If you click on “WP Recipe Maker” you’ll find a brand new dashboard page, listing useful information related to WPRM.

It shows your latest recipes, some quick tips and links to additional resources. There’s also a news section where you’ll be able to learn more about latest releases (this blog post!) and find the food blogging related blog posts that we and our partners publish.

The final block (for now) shows you a quick glance of your recipe analytics, if that feature is enabled.

We have some more ideas of things we can add in the future, now that the foundation is there. So keep an eye on the news section!
