What about WP Ultimate Recipe?

In 2013 we launched our first recipe plugin, WP Ultimate Recipe which is actually pretty popular, so it might seem confusing that we’ve released another recipe plugin. We’ll try to answer your questions on this page.

Why the new plugin?

A few structural choices we made early on have caused WP Ultimate Recipe to be quite complex and not 100% compatible with all themes. With WP Recipe Maker we’re building the perfect recipe plugin from scratch, without all the baggage of years of development.

WP Recipe Maker was built from the ground up with all the things we learned from 3 years of developing our other recipe plugin. We think the workflow is easier and the plugin should be more performant as well.

What’s the difference with WP Ultimate Recipe?

WP Ultimate Recipe Premium still has a lot more features that haven’t made it to this new plugin yet. Over the coming months we’ll probably be releasing more add-ons for WP Recipe Maker to cover this, but for now it’s a bit more limited.

Features that are currently only available in WP Ultimate Recipe Premium:

  • User Submission
  • Meal Planner
  • Favorite recipes
  • Custom fields
  • Import/Export to XML
  • Recipe Index

Features that probably won’t be implemented for WP Recipe Maker:

  • Template Editor (WPRM uses a code-based template and allows for changes through the settings)

Should I switch from WP Ultimate Recipe?

We offer a free migration for anyone with an active WP Ultimate Recipe Premium license (contact us!) to make it as easy as possible to make the switch. Migrating is pretty much just the click of a button.

That said, it will take some to get these add-ons to WP Recipe Maker so if you’re using any of the above features we recommend staying with WP Ultimate Recipe for now. WP Ultimate Recipe will still be supported and maintained for the foreseeable future, so there’s definitely no need to make the switch yet.

As long as you have an active license this free migration offer stands.
